On Wednesday 2 October, Research Data Scotland (RDS) hosted a showcase webinar to provide an update on some of our progress and impact so far. Watch a recording of the webinar now.

Hosted by RDS Chief Executive Officer, Professor Roger Halliday, the showcase spotlighted some of the organisation’s key areas of work, including the Researcher Access Service, synthetic data, and public engagement.

  • The Researcher Access Service. Launched in April this year, the Researcher Access Service is a digital service that makes it quicker and simpler for approved researchers to access public sector data for research. At the showcase, Jen Campbell (Digital Delivery Lead) and Adam Coulson (Delivery Manager) gave an overview of how the service was developed, how to apply to access data, and our plans for the future. Learn more about the Researcher Access Service at our next webinar on Wednesday 4 December, held with HDR UK Scotland.
  • Synthetic data. Synthetic data is artificial data that contains no information about real people, but follows some of the same patterns as real-world data. Sophie McCall (Senior Data Analyst) spoke to showcase attendees about why synthetic data is a useful tool for researchers, and we’re how we’re working to develop the use of synthetic data in Scotland.
  • Public engagement. Our Public Engagement Fund supports projects that improve public understanding of the use of data in research. At the showcase, Katie Oldfield (Public Engagement Manager) gave an introduction to the fund alongside some of the other ways we’re involving the public in our work. The Public Engagement Fund closes on Monday 14 October – find out more.
