Want to find out how Research Data Scotland (RDS) is making it faster and simpler to do research that can improve lives? Join our public-friendly showcase webinar to learn more about our work.

On Wednesday 2 October (14:00 to 15:30), RDS colleagues will provide an update on some of RDS's progress and impact so far.

This session is designed to be welcoming and approachable for everyone, so whether you’re a seasoned researcher or you’ve never interacted with data science before, everybody is invited.

At the showcase, we’ll explore some of the key areas RDS has been working on over the last few months including:

  • The Researcher Access Service. Launched in April this year, the Researcher Access Service is a digital service that makes it quicker and simpler for approved researchers to access public sector data for research. At the showcase, you’ll learn more about how the service works and our plans for the future.
  • Synthetic data. Synthetic data is artificial data that contains no information about real people, but follows some of the same patterns as real-world data. It’s a useful tool to help researchers test approaches, and we’re working to develop the use of synthetic data in Scotland through workshops, funding and developing a nationwide strategy.
  • Public engagement. In August, we announced the return of our Public Engagement Fund, supporting projects that improve public understanding of the use of data in research. Find out more about the fund, our public panel, and other public engagement activities, at the showcase.

Learn more about RDS’s work to date in our Highlights and Impact review (2021 – 2024).
